PANEL DISCUSSION 01: 2nd Edition, The Natural History of Madagascar

Description: July 31 during the lunch break there will be a space reserved in the dining hall to discuss advancements with this book project.  Steve Goodman will present different aspects concerning contributions and submissions, dates, publisher, etc.  For those that have been contacted to participate or those that are keen to be involved, please try to attend this lunch meeting.

PANEL DISCUSSION 02: Biotropica informal "meet and greet"

Description: Have you ever considered publishing your work in Biotropica? Please come join us for an informal meeting with the Editor-in-Chief, Associates Editors, and Subject Editors of Biotropica, the journal of the Association for Tropical Biology and Conservation. In this informal round table discussion, we will answer any questions you may have and help to demystify the publication process. We look forward to meeting with anyone whois interested in showing up, especially early-career scientists and students.

PANEL DISCUSSION 03: Research is one of the sectors with very limited funding in Madagascar by Tany Meva Foundation

Description: According to the National Scientific Research Strategy published in 2013, public resources allocated to national research centres under the tutelage of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research amounted to about 0.04 % of the state budget in 2012.

In order to address this deficit, some initiatives supported research mainly through bilateral

cooperations (FDES/FADES, PARRUR/French cooperation, FCRA/PSDR...).

Since 2015, Tany Meva Foundation has been contributing to biodiversity conservation research through the Critical Ecosystems Partnership Fund (CEPF). More than 20 national, regional and international organizations and institutions received a total grant of $2.3 million.

PANEL DISCUSSION 4: Photographic guide book to the birds of Madagascar (Vorontsika eto Madagasikara)

Description: Prof. Hajanirina Rakotomanana will present his photographic guide book written in Malagasy language. The guide will include 218 excellent photos of birds, main landscapes of Madagascar, the main vegetation, distribution of protected areas and a systematic checklist which include scientific, French, English and new Malagasy names.
